Participating in the career guidance activities at school provides learners with the necessary awareness, knowledge and skills required in the outside world. Success in life is more likely when individuals make academic decisions in a well‐informed manner and learn to their interests, capacities and aspirations. Bearing this in mind, Bhavans Smart Indian School Kuwait hosted a special career session exclusively for the benefit of students who have taken science and prefer to choose science subjects in higher grades. The session was on the 11th of January 2024 in the school premises.
The session commences with a warm welcome note by Nifansa Arul Dharmaraj an inquisitive learner of grade 11 Aries, she introduced the speaker Ms. Saima and the team of academic experts from IDP Kuwait. In her presentation, Ms. Saima focused on the pivotal fields related to Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, Informatics and Psychology. She detailed the associated fields unique for the theme with special emphasis on the future scope and possibilities to outshine in the job market. Few contemporary disciplines apart from the conventional ones and its importance and relevance in the near future was explicated to the best interest of the students.
Firstly Ms. Saima enumerated the broad category of subject options one could keep in mind while choosing Biology as their major. She quoted the wide array of choices namely Microbiological Sciences, Marine Sciences, Biomedical Engineering and Health Information Technology etc.
Next, she explained in detail the choices available for Physics namely, Engineering, Astronomy, Earth Sciences with special emphasis on the role of Exploratory, Developmental and Petroleum Geology etc.
Moreover, she elucidated the prospects of choosing Chemistry and its related fields namely, Chemical engineering, Oil and Gas engineering, Petroleum engineering, Reservoir Engineering and then Pharmacy with special emphasis on Pharmaceutical, Nanotechnology and many more related probabilities.
Furthermore, Ms. Saima touched upon the relevance of choosing Computer science along with Math as an essence to shine well in the field of AI, Data Science, cyber security, Robotics, Risk management, Actuarial sciences, Computer engineering, software engineering etc. Finally, she explained in detail the discipline Psychology and its related course of study namely, Clinical, Counselling, Psychiatry, Neuropsychology, Forensic psychology, Educational and High Intensity Therapist.
Ms. Manju Bagyaraj, the academic expert from IDP, Kuwait clarified the queries raised by the students and assured any time academic guidance and clarification related to upgraded career prospects. In the concluding part of the session, the exuberant and passion of the speaker Ms. Saima was appreciated and applauded by the School Counselor Ms. Anju Jacob. Ms. Saima and Ms. Manju Bhagyaraj were felicitated with a Memento by the Principal Mr. Mahesh Iyer in the valuable presence of the Vice-Principals of CBSE and IGCSE Ms. Anselma Tessy, Ms. Albin Daisy and Ms. Bhavitha Bright.
Thus, the need to stay updated with the career trends that are highly promising in this modern age and the need to refresh our knowledge of the emerging career options were the takeaway message of the day’s career counselling session.
