With a view to sensitize the students about the urgent environmental issues and the dire need to save our magnificent planet, Bhavans Smart Indian School and Jack & Jill celebrated World Environment Day on Sunday, June 6, 2021 with various competitions and activities to promote worldwide awareness and action for the environment. The entire activities encompassed the theme of ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ with a focus on resetting our relationship with nature.

Children were explained about the importance of planting trees and keeping our environment clean. They were also sensitized about the dangers of Global Warming and increasing pollution.

To instill the importance of 3R’s, Kindergarten children made a wall hanging paper craft with the tags Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Save water and environment. All in all, the day was a great success and had certainly made a difference to the way we view our environment.

Grades 1 and 2 participated in one-minute role play activity. Students had to choose any plant of their own choice and enact the same. It was great to see all the budding learners talking about the interesting facts and importance of the plants. The activity was conducted during the EVS period.

Grades 3 to 5 – participated in Bird Feeder making activity. The amount of love by the participants for the birds was seen richly to the senses of the teachers and students in the class. The amount of work in designing and coloring the bird feeders was an amazing one. The activity was conducted during the EVS period.

Grades 6 to 8 students participated in cartoon drawing competition. All the participants drew simple and well-defined cartoons on the topic “Human and Environment”. It was a beautiful piece of art. The cartoon drawings were judged based on the following criteria are creativity, overall design and clarity on the theme. The competition was conducted through Zoom platform.

Grades 9 to 11 students participated in the elocution competition. All the participants expressed their thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively “ecosystem restoration and resetting our relationship with nature”. They displayed their compendious knowledge on the topic. The competition was conducted through Zoom platform. The speech judgement was based on the following criteria confidence, content and clarity of speech.

Mr. Mahesh Iyer, the principal of Smart Indian School, in his short speech, encouraged everyone to strive to protect our environment and keep it clean. He appreciated all the teachers of the KG department and the Science department for conducting varieties of competitions and activities to make students understand the importance of conservation of natural resources.
