Smart Indian School hosted the much-awaited Annual Sports Day infused with the theme of ‘Sports for Peace’ on 5th November’23 on the sprawling grounds of the school. The morning was filled with great zeal, frolicsome atmosphere, and excitement experienced amidst thrills, shrills and cheers.

No programme worth its salt can ever take place without seeking the blessings of God; the day started with a recital of verses from the Holy Quran. The Chief Guest for the day, was Mrs. Bhagya Shekhar, a swimming coach who was bestowed with the honour of four gold medals in the recent international swimming competition held in Dubai. Dr. Murugaiyan, the Head of the Department of Physical Education, Bhavans Kuwait was the guest of honour.

 Afte the hoisting of national flags for Kuwait and India by the VIPs, the viewers witnessed the Athletic Parade of BSS cadets, which stood at the forefront, followed by the Supreme Council, followed by four houses of SIS—a highly driven event where the four houses eyed for the first place. The audience next witnessed various displays symbolising alternative sources of energy. The displays made way for the highly awaited athletic events where student competitiveness soared through the roof.  Another highlight of the day was the lighting of the Torch, which sports captain Angelo Sujo flamed.

Students from all grades participated in a variety of events. The event continuously emphasised sports in a child’s life and physical and mental development. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish. The first round of prize distribution took place.

The closing ceremony recharged everyone. The distinguished dignitaries, Chief Guest Ali Judiyan Al Bigheli, Guest of Honour Mr. Madhav Rajesh – Director, Bhavans Kuwait, Principal Mahesh Iyer and Vice Principals of SIS and the Admin Manager presided over the event. Emphasising the need to imbibe qualities of discipline and sportsmanship and never be disappointed by failure in life with a robust mind and a lively body is the fundamental requirement to live a long, happy life. With this message in mind, the drill display of classes first to sixth aimed to enlighten every bit of the event.

The victory ceremony came after all these events; trophies and certificates were awarded to the achievers of the various events.

Students departed with an unmistakable smile on their faces. It was a day filled with enthusiasm and memories to cherish. The blazing flame hit the retreat and was then put to rest. The dignitaries addressed the children.  The principal of this esteemed institution thanked all the teachers for their cooperation and support and advised the children to keep up their sportsman spirit.
