Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.”– Wassily Kandinsky

Colours can evoke strong emotions that give wings to our imaginations. They are genuinely wonderful gifts for our senses.  Kindergarten is an important time for toddlers to learn the importance of identifying and recognizing colours, which is a crucial cognitive-developmental step in developing their sense of colour. A child’s creativity and appreciation of colour have a considerably greater impact on them than on the rest of the world. It not only cheers up little hearts but also gives them a chance to discover and comprehend the world.

The children at Jack and Jill Preschool and Bhavans Smart Indian School Kuwait celebrated Colour Days through the exploration of colours. During the week, the children were invited to explore a variety of activities and wore theme-based apparel corresponding to the day’s colour. Teachers and children spoke about colours during class time, sang rhymes about colours, and did many hands-on activities. The Pre-KG and KG1 children explored the primary colours through colouring and collage. Whereas in KG2, children discovered the magic created by mixing the primary colours to get secondary colours through activities like palm printing, collage making etc., which finally culminated in a rainbow day celebration. It was an excellent learning experience for the children, which enhanced their visual discrimination as well.

This celebration aimed to engage the kids in a practical activity that would increase their knowledge of the colours. The colour week was truly enjoyable and colourful, for the tiny tots.
