World Science Day for peace and development was conducted at SIS on 10th November. Themed as “Scientific Innovation – a way of life” was the focal point of discussion with Dr. S. Neelamani, a Senior Research Scientist, Coastal Management Program Environment and Life Sciences Research Centre in Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). It was a live learning session with him who obtained the No.1 Scientific Achievement award in KISR for the year 2009-2010. This event started at 12:30 a.m.

The young learners from grades  6 to 11 at SIS had a knowledge enriching interaction of certain topics: Physical modelling on Coastal and Ocean structures, Ocean Energy and marine environmental issues, Reduction of Wave Pressures on Vertical Seawall/Caissons due to an Offshore Breakwater, Floating breakwaters which can be used cost effectively for protecting coastal area from wave induced erosion. Having listened to the aforesaid, children could not resist their curiosity to raise brainstorming questions regarding invention and innovation.

This theme-based session also encompassed environmental and economic aspects of his inventions. Students were highly motivated in the field of science and innovation. The resource person appreciated the right sense of students’ thirst for science through the conversation that all the students wanted to have inventions and innovations without causing hazards to nature. The takeaway was not just the admiration of the resource person’s laurels, rather it was a huge amount of inspiration and love for invention and innovation without causing hazards to the nature.

Many pathways for innovation were interesting part of this session. Prospect of scientific career at present and future was discussed. Hence, students were encouraged to study the subject with full knowledge and gather joy while learning.

The Science department teachers namely Ms. Saritha and Ms. Rekha addressed the gathering through their luminous welcome and elaborate vote of thanks.

Mr. Mahesh Iyer, Principal of Smart Indian School, had thanked Dr. S. Neelamani for being with the students and presented a virtual certificate as a token of appreciation to the resource person. Ms. Albin Daisy Vice-Principal of Smart Indian School did the formal conclusion. The event ended with a note “Believe in yourself, monitor yourself and become a good citizen.”
