“Love the Earth as you love yourself.” – John Denver

Earth Day is about raising awareness about the importance of protecting our planet and taking action. Every year on the 22nd of April, Earth Day is celebrated around the world in over 192 countries. But this annual event is much more than a celebration – it’s an important day to raise consciousness about looking after the environment. The ways we celebrate Earth Day have evolved, but the meaning stays the same, i.e., cleaner earth means healthier earth.

Although Earth Day is celebrated just once a year, the spirit of the day can be carried throughout the year. The best way to show children how to care for the earth is to model earth-friendly behavior like promoting energy and water conservation, recycling, planting more trees, and giving back to the community.

The Kindergarten children at Bhavans Smart Indian School and Jack and Jill Pre-School, Kuwait celebrated Earth Day by bringing plants to school and going on a nature walk which was completely  peaceful and reflective experience for them. An attempt to deliberately notice things encouraged children to observe with all their senses and helped them to focus their attention and take in the details of things around them.

While there are many activities children can do on Earth day to improve the world, the biggest benefit Earth Day can provide is education. We make sure that children implement what they learn on Earth Day year-round so that they can help the planet become a cleaner place for generations to come.
