“Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times.”

Bhavans Smart Indian School conducted a webinar on children with Special Needs on 22nd October 2022. Ms. Rajni Menon, Kindergarten Supervisor of Smart Indian School and Jack and Jill Preschool, led the session in the presence of the school’s honourable Chairman Mr. Ramachandran Menon and Principal Mr. Mahesh Iyer. The session was opened by Ms. Sajini Prithviraj, coordinator at Smart Indian School Kuwait, followed by a warm welcome from Ms. Nisha Haneef, a teacher at Smart Indian School. The resource person Dr. Shalini Somesh, a renowned psychologist and Special Educator, also a veteran in conducting workshops for teachers and students, shared her expertise on the topic ‘Early detection of children with special needs and teacher’s magic in it.

Dr. Shalini Somesh started the session with her thoughts on the problems faced by children with special needs. Understanding a child’s needs and creating a routine to rectify the same in the classroom can bring a massive difference in the child’s behaviour. With her vast expertise and experience in this field, she parted her valuable knowledge on the different kinds of disabilities faced by children and how to detect and deal with them as a teacher.

After this eye-opening session, the platform was left open for teachers to discuss their problems with children in the classrooms, for which Ms. Shalini suggested many remedial measures. Towards the end of the workshop, the Smart Indian School Principal, Mr. Mahesh Iyer interacted with Ms. Shalini Somesh and honoured her with a virtual certificate on behalf of the Bhavans family. Ms. Thushara Renjith, a Kindergarten teacher at Jack and Jill Pre-School, concluded the workshop by thanking the management and the resource person for the informative session. The workshop was genuinely insightful and ended with the hope of having many more such valuable and informative sessions.
