“Families are the compass that guides us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter”. —- Brad Henry

International Family Day is celebrated every year on May 15. In 1993 the UN General Assembly proclaimed the day to provide the importance of families and promote awareness of issues relating to families and come close together and celebrate the essence of being a family.

The kindergarteners at Bhavans Smart Indian School and Jack and Jill Preschool celebrated the International Family Day with great enthusiasm. The day started with the teachers explaining the meaning of being a family and the sense of belongingness and a unique identity that the family provides to each one of us. The children expressed their feelings by singing songs and talking affectionately about their families and how they spend quality time together by doing different activities. The children of KG1 children did a coloring activity depicting their family members whereas KG2 children were asked to draw a family picture, label them and talk about them. It was a day filled with fun and excitement, children enjoyed each and every moment of it.

A family is the first school in which a child receives the basic values of life. The values learned in the family become the guiding force and lay the foundation of our thinking. Family is an important and strongest unit of society and this celebration truly aims at making children understand the importance of family in their life.
